Warm up for the West Tanfield Weekend with a flat water paddle and ww play at Howsham Weir!

We will start the trip at Kirkham Abbey on the Derwent before paddling downstream to Howsham Weir. This is a flat water paddle down to the weir with some very nice scenery. The paddle is approx 4 miles.
Once at Howsham we will stop for an hour or so to play on the waves and practice on the eddy lines.
Please bring warm clothing, packed lunch, drink and most importantly a helmet.
Meet 9am at the pond if you need equipment or 9:30 at Shiptonthorpe (Little Chef).

If you would like to join this trip please let Steve Todd know.

If you need a boat or equipment please ask Jon Cooper.

The first of this years Humber Canoe Association (HCA) weekends at West Tanfield will be held on the weekend of 24/25th April. The HCA is an amalgamation of all the local canoe clubs: Hull and District CC, Kingston KC, Glandford and Scunthorpe CC and Grimsby CC. Twice yearly we all meet at West Tanfield to share coaches and run courses for the benefit of club members.

This weekend is an ideal opportunity for members to gain new Star awards or further their white water experience through the HCA White Water Awards. An application form has been circulated to all members. If you intend to register for one of the courses please submit your form with a coaches signature as soon as possible as places tend to be allocated very quickly.

HDCC members tend to arrive on the Friday night and go for Fish and Chips in Ripon before going to the local pub (Staveley Arms, North Stainley). Don’t forget to put your name down for the carvery on the Saturday night, again at the Staveley Arms (it’s very good).

The weekend is based at the Slenningford Watermill campsite near Ripon. Members must book their pitch before arrival via the web or by phone.

Both weekends last year were very well attended with us taking over 40 members to each weekend. Hopefully this years event will be just as successful.

1st Aid Course

Pete Rafton will be running another 1st Aid course on Tuesday 16th March. Contact Pete for more info, open to all HDCC members.

If you are not aware, Nigel and Kathy have taken over management of a campsite at Lochranza.
Therefore HDCC has decided to organise a club weekend away to the Isle of Arran, Scotland on the 29th May till 31st May, this is the bank holiday weekend. Alternatively you can stay as long as you want!

You can catch the ferry form Ardrossan (North Ayrshire) which is a few miles from Glasgow and sail for 55 minutes to Brodick. Upon arrival on Arran you can drive your car to the campsite, or if you have car shared for Kayak purposes and left your vehicle at the ferry port you can catch a Stage coach bus or Taxis to the campsite.

There are lots of fantastic activities available on Arran as well as kayaking.

This weekend is open to non-paddlers, so please bring your family or friends, as there really is something for everyone to enjoy!
The campsite website is www.caravancampingsites.co.uk look for Arran/Lochranza.

If you want to have a look at the beautiful Isle of Arran use www.visitarran.com

We will need to book the ferry fairly promptly to ensure our passage to the Isle of Arran and back to the mainland.

If you would like to go to Arran please contact Vicki Wirth.
